Voting: Time Off

How can I vote when I work all day?

Both the Personnel Policy for Staff Members, and negotiated labor contracts allow an employee up to a maximum of two (2) hours, for voting in a statewide primary or general election if the employee is scheduled to work eight (8) hours or more on that day and does not have time to vote outside of working hours.

Employees:

  • Please explore all the options for placing your vote before or after work, or during your lunch period. Normally, there is plenty of time to vote since the polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Supervisors:

  • If you are inclined to grant time off, and the employee requests more than two (2) hours, you may authorize additional time, but it will be without pay.
