Emergency/Short-Term Appointments
Definition:
- The purpose of an emergency/short-term appointment is to temporarily fill a position when a department has an emergency or short-term need that cannot be met through the Temporary Employment Services. Typically, the individual appointed to the position has specialized skills that are not available from the Temporary Employment Services pool.
- An emergency/short-term appointment is a Limited Appointment of 865 hours or less in a 12-month maximum period. Note: Initial requests can be established/approved up to 4 months; requests for extensions will be reviewed based on hours available within the 865 cap.
Department Responsibilities:
- Contact your department's Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter to discuss the nature of the request. Submit your request using the Job Machine system.
- Consideration should be given to individuals with recall or preferential rehire rights.
- The Application for Employment form must be faxed to your Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter at (530) 754-6163.
Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter Responsibilities:
- The Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter will review the short-term request for approval, ensure that the classification level is appropriate, the duration of the appointment is consistent with policy, and the applicant meets the requirements for the position.
- The department will be contacted as appropriate.
- Approval will be processed by the Job Machine system and notification of approval sent to the department.
Department Responsibilities:
- Print the "approved" vacancy form, sent to the department via Job Machine notification, and secure the supervisor's and new hire's signature and retain with department file.
- Any extension requires consultation and approval with your department's Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter.
