Hiring Retirees - PSS Recruitments

A UC retired employee may return to work for a Short Term Employment (STE) Limited Appointment provided general guidelines established by UC policy have been met. Please contact your Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter prior to the appointment of any rehired retiree including other employment actions.

Department Responsibilities:
  • Determine if the retiree is eligible for re-employment under the terms of the Rehire of Retirees UC policy - UC Davis Policy and Procedure Manual 380-30.

  • Department ensures the retiree contacts the Benefits Office to determine what effect re-employment would have on their retirement benefits.

  • Contact your department's Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter to discuss the nature of the request.

  • Submit your STE request using the Job Machine system.

  • A signed Application for Employment form must be faxed to your Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter at (530) 754-6163.

  • Department ensures retiree completes and forwards a waiver form to Benefits Office prior to being hired. See Returning to UC Employment After Retirement Factsheet and Waiver Form.

  • Any extension requires consultation and approval with your department’s Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter.

Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter Responsibilities:

  • The Employment and Outreach Consultant/Recruiter will review the short-term request for approval, ensure that the classification level is appropriate, the duration of the appointment is consistent with policy, and the applicant meets the requirements for the position.

  • The department will be contacted as appropriate.

  • Approval will be processed by the Job Machine and notification of approval sent to the department.

  • Print the "approved" vacancy form, and retain with department file.
