Post-Employment Benefits Forum
On November 9, 2009, the University of California President's Task Force on Post-Employment Benefits held forums to give staff, faculty and retirees the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the immediate and long-term effects of fiscal pressures on the University's pension and retiree health programs. One forum was recorded and can be viewed.
Effective September 8, 2009, all federal contractors and subcontractors were required to begin using "E-Verify," the Internet-based employment verification system to check the status of new and existing employees assigned to a federal/subcontract containing the E-Verify clause.
In response to new legislation and ongoing issues from the state budget crisis and its impact on the University of California, several staff and faculty programs are in place.
On Thursday, October 15, 2009, a Staff Open Forum was held to share the Chancellor's vision for the future of UC Davis, to update staff and faculty on campus responses to the current budget situation and to provide an opportunity for employees to receive direct answers to their questions. Staff and Academic Reduction in Time (START)
START is a temporary, voluntary program in which eligible employees may, with the approval of their department, reduce their working hours and corresponding pay between 5% and 50%.
Alternatives to Furlough/Payroll Savings Plan for Represented Employees
On September 18, 2009, staff represented by unions were informed that they face, at a minimum, temporary layoffs or reductions in time as alternatives to participating in the systemwide furlough plan.
On July 16, 2009, the UC Regents declared an extreme financial emergency for UC, and approved a one-year systemwide furlough plan, effective September 1, 2009, as part of an overall strategy, built on a central principle of shared sacrifice, to address the fiscal challenges faced by the University of California. The furlough plan is expected to solve roughly 25 percent of our budget problem.

Open Forum: HR Programs and Services for Campus Staff - Resources
On Thursday, July 9, HR Program Managers, along with Provost Lavernia; Bob Powell, the Chair of Academic Senate; and Kelly Ratliff, Associate Vice Chancellor of Budget Resource Management, presented information to assist staff in this time of budget reductions.
The UC Davis campus' Voluntary Separation Program program gives employees the opportunity to self-identify their willingness to voluntarily resign their UC Davis employment. Under this program, employees can receive severance pay for voluntarily resigning subject to approval by UC Davis.
Special Transfer Opportunity Program (STOP)
STOP is a modified recruitment process by policy that allows Dean’s/Vice Chancellor’s offices to assist their units in placing layoff candidates from their respective program areas and within their same bargaining unit without posting the position for an open recruitment process.

Confidential, cost free assessment, intervention, consultation and referral services to all UCD faculty, staff and their immediate families.
Professional conflict management consultation, education and services provided to faculty, staff and graduate students. Mediation Services' core service is structured, informal mediation designed to facilitate the effective management of workplace disputes.

Employee information
The Employee Relations unit provides consultation and advice to managers, supervisors and employees regarding Human Resources issues, including performance management, corrective actions, interpretation of policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements, training of staff policy and procedures, FMLA, etc.

Unions, collective bargaining agreements, and labor relations
Labor Relations handles grievances, arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges and complaints to state agencies. We also conduct employment investigations, provide required notices to the unions, publish bulletins on timely topics, draft settlement agreements.
