Process PPS transaction in accordance with Postdoctoral Scholar appointment policies
Information regarding appointment requirements can be found on the Graduate Studies website.

Assign BELI code based on appointment attributes.

Provide the Orientation & Enrollment Process document to Postdoctoral Scholar
Encourage employee to bring this document with them to Orientation.

New Employee Orientation
Postdoctoral scholars must attend the New Employee Orientation class.

During the benefits portion of the class, the postdoctoral scholars in attendance will have a separate meeting with the Campus Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Program Coordinator to discuss their benefits package.

More information about the Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits package, enrollment and beneficiary designation information can be found at the Garnett-Powers & Associates website.

Joint Appointments
When a postdoctoral scholar has joint appointments where one or more of the other titles are not in the postdoc series, the benefits program assigned to the employee will be the one that relates to their appointment of highest percentage.

Examples:

Paula Postdoc holds joint appointments for 12 months as a 75% Postdoctoral
Scholar -- Employee and 25% Lecturer. She would be eligible to enroll in the Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits package. (BELI P)

Louie Lecturer holds joint appointments for 12 months as a 40% Postdoctoral
Scholar -- Employee and 60% Lecturer. He would be eligible to enroll in the traditional employee benefits package. (BELI 1)

COBRA
While Postdoctoral Scholars are eligible for COBRA benefits, the department does not prepare the forms or provide the COBRA packet to the employee. DBAs should notify the Campus Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Program Coordinator when the Postdoctoral Scholar loses benefits eligibility. The coordinator will notify Garnett-Powers & Associates who will provide COBRA information to the employee.
