Layoff / Severance Pay -- PPSM 60 Proposed Revisions

Layoff and Reduction in Time - Proposed Policy Changes

The University has proposed changes to Personnel Policies for Staff Members, Policy 60 (Layoff and Reduction in Time). This policy applies to Professional and Support Staff (PSS) titles which are not represented by a union.

The revisions are being proposed in an effort to be responsive to employee needs and to mitigate the impact on staff when departments find it ncessary to implement temporary or indefinite layoffs or reductions in time. The major proposed changes are:
  • All PSS employees who are laid off will have the option of electing severance pay in lieu of preference for reemployment and right to recall.

  • The payment rates will be improved to provide a lump sum amount of one week of base pay for each full year of service up to a maximum of 16 weeks of base pay for all PSS employees.
