Sally Waters

In addition to her appointment as director of an organizational development consulting unit at the University of California, Davis, Sally Waters provides contract services for organizations and individuals needing expertise in human relations and communication, group process, meeting management, facilitator and trainer development, diversity, conflict resolution, and personal growth and development. 

 

Since 1979, she has worked as a trainer, facilitator, consultant, and coach on such topics as intercultural and interpersonal communication, team building, performance management, customer service, leader development, train-the-trainer, diversity, personal growth, and conflict management/mediation.

Methods and Approaches

She has broad experience with a variety of educational and facilitative approaches in her workshops and sessions, including traditional lecture and discussion, dialogue (Bohm), Theatre of the Oppressed (Boal), journaling, movement/body work, simulations/games, music, metaphor, art, and other non-traditional methodologies. Her workshops are highly interactive, allowing learners to practice and internalize new skills. 

Human Relations, Communication, Diversity

Significant accomplishments as an internal consultant at a Fortune 200 financial services company included screening, training, and coaching over 50 volunteer diversity facilitators, designing customized workshops, facilitating more than 140 diversity and communication workshops for employees, and designing and conducting a cultural assessment. She has worked with thousands of adults from more than 50 nations in her ten years of work in intercultural and second language training. She has facilitated hundreds of workshops on a variety of interpersonal and intercultural topics for dozens of U.S. and foreign private and public organizations. 

Research and Analysis

She has a strong background in research and analysis in applied settings, with experience in assessing workplace culture related to intercultural and international barriers, conflict, morale, communication, employee respect and dignity, and other interpersonal issues. She has completed over 18 graduate hours in statistical analysis and research design, including both qualitative and quantitative methods. 

International / Intercultural

At the University of Nebraska at Omaha, she designed and coordinated the Program for International Professional Development, helping professionals from around the world develop communication and intercultural skills for international business. She contracted with client companies and organizations from Japan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Korea, and the U.S. 

Education and Certification

She holds an MA in Psychology and a BA in French and Teaching English as a Second Language. She is certified as a Zenger-Miller (Achieve Global) facilitator, qualified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, FIRO-B, and the Strong Interest Inventory, and holds professional certification as a teacher of the Enneagram with Helen Palmer and David Daniels, M.D. She has trained as a community, workplace, family, and special education mediator through Nebraska Office of Dispute Resolution, Lombard Mennonite Peace Center, and the Institute for the Study of Alternative Dispute Resolution (Humboldt State University).
