How to Handle Personnel Transactions for MSP Employees at Grades 5 and Up (excluding physicians)

Salary Setting: For initial classifications, departments maintain authority for salary setting up to the midpoint of the approved salary range, providing that the new salary does not exceed the current ICL salary approval level of $295,000 (in which case the salary approval will need to be coordinated with the SMG Administrator.)  All requests for above mid-point salary offers or a salary increase that exceeds 25% in one year must be submitted to the Associate Vice Chancellor – Human Resources for approval.

Reclassifications: Significant changes in the assigned responsibilities of a position may warrant review for the purposes of reclassification. All MSP requests for reclassification will be entered into the PeopleAdmin system and reviewed for appropriate classification. SMG requests come to the SMG Administrator

Policy Exceptions:  MSP policy exceptions for payment of moving expenses, signing bonuses, and for temporary housing must be submitted, in writing, to the Associate Vice Chancellor – Human Resources for review and approval before any commitment is made. In addition, if the policy exception(s) is part of a Regents’ Item that must be submitted for approval no announcement may be made and no commitment may be made until we receive Regental approval. (MSP over $295,000 or all SMG)

Salary Determination upon Promotion or Upward Classification: Requests which are at or exceed the Regental threshold of $295,000 must have final approval by the Chancellor and/or the Office of the President and the Regents prior to implementation. Please use this form for these requests.

Salary Equity Increases: MSP requests for equity increases must be submitted, in writing, the Associate Vice Chancellor – Human Resources. Requests which are at or exceed the Regental threshold of $295,000 must have final approval by the Chancellor and/or the Office of the President, and the Regents prior to implementation. Please use this form for these requests.
