Information for faculty/staff regarding Swine Flu
Recent reports about swine flu infections and the possibility of a re-occurrence in Fall 2009 have resulted in anxiety and concern for many members of the campus community.

Having information about the symptoms, precautions and methods to prevent the flu will also help reduce anxiety. Definition:
Swine flu is a virus infection caused by type A influenza virus.
Symptoms:
1. Resembles seasonal flu
2. Fever, body aches, headaches
3. Runny nose, nasal congestion
4. Sore throat, coughing
5. Fatigue
6. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
Precautions:
1. Follow normal precautions used during the flu season
2. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
3. Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Alcohol-based hands cleaners
4. Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.
If You Get Sick:
1. Stay home from work or school and limit your contact with others to keep from infecting them.
2. If you do go to a family doctor, Student Health Services or emergency room for treatment of flu-like symptoms, advise the staff of your condition.
3. If you have flu symptoms or questions about the swine flu, call the Advice Nurse at the Student Health Services (530-752-9649).
