The Mediation Process

Mediation Resource and Referral

Conflict is a normal part of life. Taking personal responsibility for addressing and better managing such conflicts is important. Mediation is a process in which people who have a dispute can meet, and with the help of a trained mediator, open communication lines.

The process is voluntary and informal, and may make the need for more formal grievance processes unnecessary. No written complaint is required. However, if you do have a formal complaint in process, mediation may also be used as an alternative before continuing in the formal grievance system.

Mediation is:
Voluntary - It's your choice. Both parties decide if it's appropriate.
Informal - You do not need to file a written complaint.

Confidential
What you say goes no further. Information discussed in the mediation process is not shared and cannot be used in other areas unless all parties agree.

Impartial
Trained faculty, staff or student mediators are assigned from a pool of volunteers appointed by the Chancellor.

No Cost
All mediation processes are free.
