TODS Announcement by Karen Hull - Associate Vice Chancellor, Human Resources

What is TODS?
The fourth Thursday in April is national "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" (TODS) when employers nationwide host children at their workplaces. Intended for girls and boys ages 8 to 12 years, the event introduces youth to the vast range of potential job opportunities and questions about how their future work will fit into their overall lives.

At UC Davis, employees and their 8 to 12 year old guests are encouraged to participate. Colleges, divisions, and departments are asked to respond positively to requests from campus staff and faculty for tours, demonstrations, job shadowing and the like for youth visiting campus that day. In addition, departments may wish to proactively organize activities for the youth of their employees and highlight examples where policy and practice have enabled faculty and staff to integrate their professional and personal lives.

Getting involved:
Participating is simple! In fact, many of the activities and information boards departments have available for Picnic Day would be a great addition to TODS. Our goal is to provide our 8-12 year old guests with the opportunity to learn more about where their caregivers work, experience a variety of unique career opportunities that exist in the “real world”, and see that work is fun! To submit an idea for an activity your department could sponsor, complete a TODS Activity Sheet and send it to WorkLife .
