UC Davis supports telework arrangements by providing tools to make remote communication and collaboration easier. 

Tool availability varies across departments. Departments may provide services in addition to those listed below. Please note that some units may have special circumstances and policies prohibiting the use of select tools. Contact your IT department for options/solutions regarding remote work. For staff in Finance, Operations and Administration (FOA) please refer to this article and links for accessing your various e-communications/files. 

The following communication and collaboration tools are accessible via a web browser or downloaded app. Contact your local tech support team to learn more.

UC Davis campus

  • Box: Box is a cloud-hosted data storage and collaboration service and tool for students, faculty, and staff. Box enables UC Davis affiliates the ability to share and access information from anywhere, at any time, and with any device.
  • Office365: In addition to the Microsoft Office tools, such as Word and Excel, Office365 includes OneDrive for file storage and collaboration similar to Box. Office365 can be accessed in a web browser at office365.ucdavis.edu.
  • Skype: Skype for Business Online is an enterprise communications platform, part of Microsoft Office 365, that can be used for chat/instant messaging.
  • Zoom: Zoom provides video, web, and audio conferencing (both device-based and phone) capabilities. It allows users to create instant meetings, record, and download conference sessions. Click here for learning resources.
  • Cisco VoIP: For employees needing access to their desk phone remotely, Cisco VoIP phones can be forwarded to another phone number. See instructions for Call Forward Universal.
  • DUO Multi-factor Authentication: Duo multi-factor authentication may be required to access some tools.

UC Davis Health

Information Security

The employee is responsible to take all precautions to secure confidential and proprietary UCD Health and patient information and prevent unauthorized access to any UCD Health systems from the remote location in accordance with UCD Health Compliance Policies. Work performed at the remote work site is considered official business, thus release or destruction of any records must be handled according to Privacy and Information Security standards. Computerized files are considered official records and shall be similarly protected.  Any UCD Health data is proprietary and must be deleted when employment ends or as directed by the manager. Questions regarding Patient Privacy Rights, PHI Management or Security policies and procedures must be brought to the manager for disposition.  VPN should always be used while telecommuting to enable data protection.
